The first generation of Volkswagen Santana 2006 sedan debuted in 1981. Then the car was just a four-door version of the “Passat” of the second generation. In Europe (with the exception of Spain), it was decided to abandon this name in 1985, when the car was named Passat. But in South America and China “Santana” existed for many years.
The first copies of Volkswagen Santana 2006 model were assembled in China back in 1982. A few years later, the mass production of these sedans, which became one of the symbols of the country’s motorization, began. The design of the car, equipped with gasoline engines in volume of 1.6 or 1.8 liters, was constantly changed. And the lineup was replenished with new versions, for example, with the body wagon. In 1994, the completely redesigned Volkswagen Santana 2000 was introduced. And another ten years later, Santana 3000 came to replace it. The last upgrade was carried out in 2008, the updated model was called Santana Vista. This car was produced in China before the beginning of 2013.
In Brazil, two- and four-door sedans, as well as the station wagons Volkswagen Santana 2006 were produced since 1984. On the car were put the engines 1.8 and 2.0, which could work both on gasoline and on ethanol. In 1994 and 1998, the model was restyled, and its production was completed only in 2006. In Mexico this car was called Volkswagen Corsar, and in Argentina – Volkswagen Carat.
