Aion S Max Sedan: Second Update In Five Years

GAC has introduced the Aion S Max mid-size electric sedan in China. In fact, this is not a new model. Back in 2018, the GAC Aion S debuted, and in 2021, the car underwent a large-scale facelift and became known as Aion S Plus (the Aion brand had already become independent at that time). At the same time, the pre-styling sedan remained in service and its production continues to this day. Now the second update has taken place: Aion S Plus has turned into Aion S Max.

The sedan has acquired a new front design with fashionable “two-story” optics, a different bumper and hood. Visually, the sedan has become even more streamlined: the S Plus model had an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.21, but the parameter of the updated model has not yet been disclosed. The rear has a new bumper, trunk lid and LED optics combined into one wide strip. The dimensions of the Aion S Max are comparable to Toyota Camry: 4863 mm in length, 1890 mm in width and 1515 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2760 mm.

The interior of the car has also changed. The front panel has become lower, the ventilation deflectors are visually separated. All the physical keys and the transmission selector were removed from the “floating” console that connects the front panel to the central tunnel. As expected, he moved to the steering column, and a small storage compartment took his former place, as well as a two-seat “plate” with wireless charging for smartphones, which is standard for almost any modern Chinese car. The screen of virtual devices has lost its visor, and the multimedia with a 14.6-inch screen has acquired a new shell.

There are only two versions left in the range, both with an electric motor on the front axle. The basic Aion S Max is equipped with a 204 hp engine and can accelerate to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. There are two traction batteries to choose from: lithium-iron-phosphate with a capacity of 59.5 kWh and lithium-ion with a capacity of 67.9 kWh. The passport power reserve is 510 and 610 km, respectively. The second modification is an electric motor with a capacity of 245 hp and only a large battery with a capacity of 67.9 kWh, acceleration time to “hundreds” is 6.7 s. The chassis of the car is simple — McPherson struts on the front axle and a semi-independent suspension at the rear.

In China, Aion S Max sedans are already available for order. The initial price is 149900 yuan, or about 1.9 million rubles in direct translation at the current exchange rate. The top version costs 202900 yuan, or about 2.6 million rubles. And the original Aion S remaining in service is now estimated at 146800 yuan.
