Kaliningrad Avtotor has started assembling BAIC X7 commercial vehicles. In China, this crossover debuted in the spring of 2020 under the name Beijing X7, becoming the first model on the new modular BFMA platform. In April of this year, the SUV underwent a facelift, but a pre-reform version was registered on the conveyor of the Motor. The BAIC X7 became the fifth model of this brand in Russia, following the U5 Plus sedan with X35 and X55 crossovers, as well as the BJ40 frame SUV.
In terms of dimensions, the Chinese “X seventh” can be compared with the Jetour X70 Plus and Skoda Kodiaq models. This is the largest and most prestigious crossover in the range of BAIC, its length is 4745 mm, and the wheelbase is 2800 mm. But there are only two rows of seats in his cabin. There are three screens on the front panel — a combination of instruments, a media system and a separate touchscreen for controlling the climate system.
In our market, the BAIC X7 will be presented in a single version with a 1.5 turbo engine (180 hp, 270 Nm), a seven-speed “robot” with two wet clutches and front-wheel drive. The modular BFMA platform provides McPherson struts on the front axle and a multi-link at the rear, but there is no all-wheel drive. A rechargable hybrid sold in China with the same gasoline engine and electric motor is not yet listed in the plans of the Automaker.
The exact date of the presentation of the model in Russia is still unknown, but it is reported that the BAIC X7 will arrive at dealers before the end of this year. Prices will also be announced later. In China, they start at 120 thousand yuan: this is about 1 million 550 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate. In addition, Avtotor plans to start assembling the BAIC BJ60 frame SUVs and the electric version of the BAIC U5 Plus sedan.
