Chery Explore 06 Urban Edition Borrowed The Look From Jaecoo J7

The branching pedigree of Chery cars is becoming even more confusing. The Chery Explore 06 crossover, which entered the Chinese market last summer, was initially presented as a more brutal and harsh car for adventure and research than the technically identical donor Chery Tiggo 7. And now Explore 06 has got an “urban” version of the Urban Edition, which completely repeats the export Jaecoo J7 already known to us.

Basic Chery Explore 06

A deliberately brutal mask made of unpainted plastic has given way to a more representative radiator grille consisting of vertical chrome slats. Black plastic remained only at the very bottom of the bumper, all other plastic elements were painted in the body color, the imitation of towing eyelets disappeared. The huge inscription “Chery” instead of the corporate logo has been replaced by a much more compact chrome die. Plastic door sills have become more modest.

Branded lettering on the grille and steering wheel is the main thing that distinguishes the home—made Chery Explore 06 Urban Edition from the export Jaecoo J7. In all other respects, these cars are identical. Their overall dimensions are 4,500 mm in length (the usual Explore 06 is 38 mm longer), 1,865 mm wide and 1,680 mm high. The wheelbase is 2672 mm. Under the hood is a well—known 1.6-liter turbo engine, producing 197 hp and 290 Nm in Chinese specifications. It is paired with a seven-speed Getrag “robot” with two wet clutches. The chassis is built according to the usual scheme: McPherson struts in front and a multi-link suspension in the rear. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions with rear wheel coupling will be available for ordering.

The Chery Explore 06 Urban Edition will go on sale in the Chinese market on December 6th, at the same time the exact prices will be known. An ordinary, “non-urban” Chery Explore 06 costs from 116900 to 139900 yuan in its homeland (approximately 1483,000- 1775,000 rubles in direct conversion at the current exchange rate).

P.S. And here is an Easter egg from the brand illustration of the new car.
