In general Chevrolet Camaro 1968 was the same as the previous models. Its main difference was the absence of windows: the side windows became one piece. Thanks to the use of the new Astro Ventilation ventilation system, additional air flows were supplied to the interior through circular ventilation openings on the sides of the front panel. In addition to upgrading the front panel, the optional console, which was installed between the seats, was also changed. Now it could have a differently designed set of additional pointers.
Four rectangular arranged in two rows of instruments showed the current (ohmmeter), coolant temperature, fuel level and oil temperature. When ordering additional indicators in front of the driver on the right, there was a tachometer with built-in dials (the so-called tick-tock-tath layout). On request, an additional handle for the passenger could be installed above the glove box. The front seats, which were used to install shoulder straps (diagonal), could have customized fabric inserts. The new door panels had a shiny metallic ornament, long armrests and concealed opening handles.
On the front of the car on the modified grille, next to the round headlights, were rectangular front lights. The rear lights received a vertical shiny splitter separating the outer red sections from the white inner ones. For Rally Sport cars, the rear lights were completely red, the reversing lights were located under the bumper, and the entire rear panel was painted black. In accordance with the requirements of US legislation on the front and rear wings of the car appeared parking lights. The exterior mirrors became rectangular.
As an option an additional metal trunk similar to that installed on the roof could be installed behind the trunk lid. It was from this model year that spoilers were installed on the car front and rear (on Chevrolet they were called auxiliary panels), which became so popular in the future, they could be ordered for any model of the car. The bodies were painted in colors of 15 shades, 12 of which were new this year.
In addition to an ornament like bumblebee strips Chevrolet Camaro 1968 has another front design for SS models. A wide strip, passing along the front part of the bonnet, reached the middle of the wings, and then, directed horizontally along the side walls, narrowed to the very edges of the doors. In addition, when installing a more powerful engine on the car used other decorative grilles on the hood, with four large simulators of the air intakes of carburetors on each side.
The popularity of the model grew until the early 70’s, while the country for the first time felt the effect of the energy crisis. All this made it necessary to change the approach to the production of car in the US.
