Chevrolet Trooper 1991 – under this name Isuzu Trooper was exported to the markets of South America and Africa. The Japanese company Isuzu is the world’s largest manufacturer of heavy trucks. The first SUV Trooper was built in 1981. This compact and comfortable all-wheel drive car became a direct competitor to Mitsubishi Pajero. They even had common external angularity. The line of Trooper initially included three-door SUVs and a two-door convertible with a soft top. Three-door versions in their turn were made with both a short (2300 mm) and a long (2650 mm) base. The last one bacame a base of extended version of a full-fledged five-door SUV. It became the most popular model. In 1985, with the debut in Geneva, this version of Trooper launched an attack on the European market.

The design of Trooper is typical for Japanese compact all-wheel drive pick-ups and SUVs. It has a front independent torsion bar suspension with adjustable stiffness, rear dependent spring suspension, jet traction. Also there is a transmission with a plug-in front axle, a demultiplier and differential locks. The rear door with the spare spare wheel attached is two-folded. Initially, the Trooper only had a 2.0-liter 88-horsepower gasoline engine and a 2.2-liter 61-horsepower diesel. For foreign markets more powerful powertrains were offered: a 2.3-liter 92-carburetor engine and a 72-hp turbodiesel.

In 1986 the appearance of Trooper was upgraded. The round headlights were replaced by rectangular ones. The grille also became different. The engines became more powerful: the 2.6-liter injector with 114 hp, and the 2,8-liter turbo-diesel engine, with 100 hp.

The second generation of Chevrolet Trooper 1991 debuted in 1991. Its design essentially retained continuity with the first model. Only it has become more modern in design and comfort. Front axle clutches are now activated by a button from the passenger compartment and even in motion (up to 100 km/h). Running characteristics become even better. Overall dimensions did not change seriously: 4660x1745x1840 mm (for a five-door version). The three-door model is 430 mm shorter.

The car, of course, was equipped with more powerful engines: a 3.2-liter 24-valve V6 with an injection capacity of 193 hp. (177 hp with catalytic converter) and a 3.1-liter 125-hp turbo diesel. In addition to the 5-speed manual gearbox, a 4-band “automatic” is provided. The diesel engine is hich effective – it consumes only 13.1 l / 100 km in the city. The gasoline engine consumes up to 16 l / 100 km.
