Crossover Kaiyi X7 Kunlun Is Ready To Debut In Russia

  • by

Kaliningrad Avtotor plant announced the start of assembly and sales of another model of the Kaiyi brand. The Kaiyi E5 sedan and the Kaiyi X3/X3 Pro compact SUVs, already familiar to us, are repainted cars of the parent company Chery, but now it’s time for a larger and more distinctive car. This is a mid-size crossover Kaiyi X7 Kunlun, named after the Chinese Kunlun mountain range.

It debuted in China a little over a year ago. Technically, it is unified with the Chery Tiggo 8 model, but the body and interior of the X-seventh have their own. The exterior was created under the guidance of designer Lowie Vermeer, who previously worked at Pininfarina Atelier. Kunlun is comparable in size to Tiggo 8: 4710 mm in length and 1705 mm in height. However, in width, Kaiyi surpasses Chery by a weighty 104 mm (1964 mm), and the wheelbase is stretched by 90 mm (up to 2800 mm).

Kunlun comes with two or three rows of seats, but it is not yet clear which versions will appear on the Russian market. The interior is dominated by two separate instrument screens (12.3 inches) and a multimedia system (14.6 inches). Other equipment includes two wireless charging pads, a panoramic roof and an engine start button. Interestingly, the buttons for starting the engine and selecting driving modes are located on the spokes of the steering wheel.

Two turbo engines will be offered to choose from — a base 1.6 with a capacity of 186 hp and a two-liter with a capacity of 238 hp. Both work in tandem with a preselective seven-speed “robot”, the drive is only front. The Kaiyi X7 Kunlun will be released on the Russian market in December, at the same time details about the configuration and prices will appear.
