The premiere of the electric liftback Volkswagen ID.7, built on the MEB platform, took place back in April this year. The model is designed to become the “Passat of the new electric era”, but what kind of Passat without a station wagon body? Therefore, today Volkswagen has published the first photos of an electric station wagon. It is called Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer, and this is the first time the company has used such a prefix, because before almost all Volkswagen station wagons were designated by the term Variant.
So far, this is just a prototype wrapped in a beautiful camouflage film with autumn landscapes, but there are already some details. For example, the Tourer has a very streamlined body. If the original liftback has an ID.If the coefficient of aerodynamic drag is 0.23, then the Tourer is only one hundredth higher: 0.24. For comparison: the new Passat with an internal combustion engine has a coefficient of 0.25. The volume of the luggage compartment is known: 545 liters under the curtain, that is, 13 liters more than the liftback. With the folded back sofa, the indicator is 1714 liters. However, the new Passat has a noticeably larger trunk: 690 liters under the curtain and 1920 liters with the rear row folded.
There is no information about the equipment of the station wagon yet, but there are unlikely to be significant differences from the liftback. In the European specification, Volkswagen ID.7 has an electric motor with a capacity of 286 hp on the rear axle and a traction battery with a capacity of 77 kWh, the passport range is at least 543 km according to the WLTP cycle, respectively. Other versions (including twin-engine ones) should appear later. In China ID.7 is equipped with a 204-horsepower electric motor.

The Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer station wagon will appear on the European market in 2024, the full premiere will take place in the coming months. The station wagon will definitely not be cheap, because even the ID.7 liftback in Germany costs at least 57 thousand euros. For example, for the outgoing Passat Variant of the eighth generation, they ask from 38,850 euros.
