Russian Car Market: November Statistics

The Autostat agency published statistics on sales of new cars on the Russian market in November 2023. In total, 109,706 passenger cars were sold in the last month of autumn. Compared to October, demand decreased by 2.3%, and this is an alarming signal. Even despite the fact that the figures for November 2022 were exceeded by as much as 2.1 times (+113%). The market was affected by an increase in scrap collection (it is included in the final price of cars) and an increase in the Central Bank’s key rate, which made loans unavailable.

With a result of 32,651 cars sold, the domestic Lada is still the leader. Its share in November amounted to almost 30% of the total market volume, although a year ago this figure exceeded 40%. And only in the eighth place of the November rating is the Korean brand Kia, which sold 2,028 cars, which is 37.6% less than in November 2022. It is significant that a Muscovite who sold 1910 Chinese locally assembled cars has gained a foothold in the top ten.

According to Autostat, the products of domestic manufacturers occupied 33% of the market this November, and foreign cars of Russian assembly got 12% (mainly Haval). Official imports accounted for 47% of cars sold, although in November 2022 their share was half that (23%). Parallel imports accounted for only 8% of the market against October’s 11%: a sharp increase in scrap collection for private owners affected.
